Etymology: < modern Latin Stentorophōnicus ( < Greek Στεντορόϕωνος having the voice of a Stentor, < Στεντορ- (Στέντωρ) + ϕωνή voice), in tuba Stentorophonica, the name given by Sir S. Morland to the speaking-trumpet invented by him (also called Stentorophonicon).
1. stentorophonic horn, stentorophonic trumpet, stentorophonic tube: a speaking trumpet. Obsolete.
