1940 Larsen & Montgomery in Amer. Mineralogist 25 513 A few specimens contain orthorhombic crystals distinct from any previously described mineral... The mineral is named sterrettite in honor of Dr. Douglas B. Sterrett who was one of the first investigators of the Utah and Nevada variscite deposits.
1959 Bull. Geol. Soc. Amer. 70 1648 Powder patterns of sterrettite and kolbeckite showed that their cell sizes are identical with that of synthetic Sc(PO4).2H2O.., indicating that the major cation might be scandium rather than aluminum.
1968 Amer. Mineralogist 53 1227 In the course of this work, the supposed Al phosphate sterrettite..was identified..to be scandium phosphate, Sc(PO4).2H2O, identical with kolbeckite.
