Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: stress n., -or suffix; stress v., -or suffix.
Etymology: Partly < stress n. + -or suffix, and partly < stress v. + -or suffix.
Originally: a stimulus, agent, or condition that induces physiological stress in an organism (cf. stress n. 7). In later use also: an event, situation, or circumstance that causes mental or emotional stress in an individual (cf. stress n. 6a).
