A muscle which (in humans) originates from the first costal cartilage and inserts on to the undersurface of the clavicle, acting to elevate the first rib or fix the clavicle.In other vertebrates, the subclavius may have a different origin and insertion, as from the sternum on to the superior borders of the clavicle and scapula or on to the humerus.
