Etymology: Either < stupor n. + -ific comb. form, or < post-classical Latin stuporificus that causes unconsciousness or insensibility (1621 or earlier) < classical Latin stupor stupor n. + -ficus -fic suffix. Compare soporific adj., soporific n.Compare French stuporifique (1776 or earlier).
