Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin subaudīre.
Etymology: < classical Latin subaudīre (2nd cent. a.d.) < sub- sub- prefix + audīre to hear (see audit n.), after ancient Greek ὑπακούειν . Compare earlier subaudition n., subauditur n.
Grammar. Now rare.

1855 Trans. Royal Irish Acad. 22 ii. 196 The use of Παρθενική for Παρθένος was frequent amongst the poets: but, properly speaking, it was the feminine of Παρθενικός with κόρη subauded.
1987 L. D. Benson Riverside Chaucer (1988) (ed. 3) App. 1177/2 An absolute god biseche on an ellipsis of I subauded from 1795 is too hard.
