Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: sub- prefix, occipital adj.
Etymology: < sub- prefix + occipital adj. In sense 1 after French sous-occipital (1732 in the passage translated in quot. 1733 at sense 1) and post-classical Latin suboccipitalis (1733 in a marginal note in the source of quot. 1733 at sense 1).
