Etymology: < sub- prefix + orbital adj. In sense A. 1 after scientific Latin suborbitalis (1766 or earlier); compare French sous-orbital (1747 or earlier), and also infra-orbital adj. at infra- prefix 2, superorbital adj., supraorbital adj.

1. Zoology and Anatomy. Situated below or under the orbit of the eye.The usual term in human anatomy is now infraorbital.
