Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin subrisivus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin subrisivus rather amusing (16th cent.) < classical Latin subrīs- , past participial stem of subrīdēre subride v. + -īvus -ive suffix. Compare earlier subrision n. In use with implications of irony or mockery, perhaps influenced semantically by derisive adj.
