Etymology: < acetone n. + -aemia suffix, apparently after Italian acetonemia (1873 or earlier). Compare German Acetonämie (1874 or earlier).

The presence of an abnormally large quantity of acetone (or other ketone bodies) in the blood; = ketonaemia n. Also: a disorder characterized by this, typically occurring in overfed cows after calving.
