Origin: A borrowing from Arabic. Etymon: Arabic saḥūr.
Etymology: < Arabic saḥūr of the dawn < the same Arabic root as saḥar dawn.
Islam.
The meal eaten before dawn during Ramadan, when fasting begins; the occasion or time of such a meal. Cf. Iftar n.
