Etymology: < post-classical Latin summulārius short treatise, author of a short treatise (both a1536 in Erasmus) < summula short treatise (frequently from 13th cent. in British sources; already in classical Latin denoting a small sum of money; < classical Latin summa sum n.1 + -ula -ula suffix) + classical Latin -ārius -ary suffix1.
Obsolete.
