Etymology: < post-classical Latin summulista writer of a short treatise (15th cent.), student of the Summulae Logicales of Petrus Hispanus (1516 in a British source) < summula (see summulary n.) + -ista -ist suffix. Compare earlier summulary n. 2, and also earlier summist n., summister n.Compare Middle French somuliste author of fables (c1500; rare).
