Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin suppressio veri.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin suppressio veri suppression of what is true (from 13th cent. in British sources; compare earlier suppressio veritatis (5th cent.)) < classical Latin suppressiō suppression n. + vērī , genitive of vērum truth (see verisimilitude n.).
Misrepresentation of the truth by concealing or withholding facts which ought to be made known. Also: an instance of this. Cf. suggestio falsi n.Originally in legal contexts.
