单词 superman
释义

supermann.

Brit. /ˈsuːpəman/, /ˈsjuːpəman/, U.S. /ˈsupərˌmæn/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: super- prefix, man n.1
Etymology: < super- prefix + man n.1, after German Übermensch (1883 in specific use in the philosopher F. W. Nietzsche's Also sprach Zarathustra; from the 16th cent. in more general uses). Compare French surhomme (1893; also rarely superhomme (1894)).Other terms used to render Nietzsche's Übermensch in English include overman n. 3 and beyond-man n. at beyond adv., prep., and n. Compounds, in addition to the borrowing Übermensch n. Uses in sense 1 have often departed widely from Nietzsche's original use (which itself continues to be debated by scholars). It is probably these wider uses which primarily influenced the adoption as the name of the superhero (see sense 2). The superhero character was developed by Siegel and Shuster for a number of years before 1938; in a fanzine released in 1933, they used the same name for a telepathic villain. Use as the name of the superhero has in turn prompted some to disfavour using the same term to translate Nietzsche's Übermensch (in addition to concerns that it is not an exact semantic equivalent).
1. In Nietzschean thought (also with capital initial): an ideal superior man of the future who transcends conventional Christian morality to create and impose his own values; = Übermensch n. More generally: a man of extraordinary power or ability; a superior being. Cf. superwoman n.In later use sometimes influenced by sense 2.
