Etymology: < post-classical Latin supravis-, past participial stem of supravidere to see above (9th cent.), to reconnoitre (13th cent.) < classical Latin suprā- supra- prefix + vidēre to see (see vision n.). Compare earlier supravisor n., supervise v.
Obsolete (rare after 17th cent.)
transitive. To supervise, oversee; to survey. Also intransitive.
