A sweet-tasting bread, pastry, cake, or biscuit. Cf. pan dulce n.Used both as a mass noun and as a count noun; cf. bread n. 1a, 1b.In some regions sweet bread refers to a specific recipe: thus in Newfoundland sweet bread is made with molasses and raisins, and in the Caribbean it contains raisins, spices, and often coconut. In both these regions it is traditionally served at Christmas or other holidays. In other contexts, sweet bread is used more generically and can refer to any sweet-tasting baked goods.It is not always possible to ascertain whether the form sweet bread represents a fixed collocation.
