Stud. 1927 47 Funke..classifies the units of speech under two heads, termed Autosemantic and Synsemantic, the former constituting the semasiological units of speech, i.e. those which give complete expression of psychic phenomena which are communicable in themselves... Autosemantics correspond to the three basic types of sentence and are not necessarily themselves single words.

1954 Archivum Linguisticum 6 18 These ‘synsemantic’ words ‘adsignify’ or contribute only to the sense of the whole group to which they belong.
