Etymology: < syn- prefix + taxis n. + -ic suffix. In sense 1 after French syntaxique (H. Ungemach 1935, in Bulletin de la Société Française de Minéralogie 58 187). Compare syntaxis n. 3 and later syntaxy n. In sense 2 after parataxic adj.
