Etymology: < post-classical Latin syntaxis syntax n.In sense 2 after German Schaarung (1885 in this sense, in the source translated in quot. 1904; now Scharung ), literally ‘action of grouping together, action of arranging in clusters’. In sense 3 after French syntaxie syntaxy n.
