释义

box kickn.

Brit. /ˈbɒks kɪk/, U.S. /ˈbɑks ˌkɪk/

A type of kick, typically sending the ball high into the air but not so as to travel a great distance forwards, made by a player in the scrum half position behind a ruck, maul, line-out, or (now less commonly) scrum, and used to clear one's lines in defence and (more recently) also as a means of advancing up the pitch in attack (cf. up and under n.).Kicks of this type are executed by turning sideways on to the opposition after picking up or receiving the ball and then swinging the back foot through to kick it upwards over the defenders.
