释义 | box-bedn. Chiefly Scottish and Irish English (northern). Now chiefly historical. An enclosed bed, often having the form of a large box with wooden roof, sides, and ends, opening in front with sliding panels, shutters, or curtains; (also occasionally) a bed arranged so as to fold up into a box. Cf. press bed n.Historically, box-beds were used in various places throughout Western Europe, and were a common feature of cottages in Scotland.
