Etymology: Sanskrit Tathāgata one who has gone the same way, i.e. as earlier Buddhas, < tathā in that manner, so + gata gone.
Buddhism.
One of the highest titles accorded to a Buddha (and that used by Gautama in referring to himself); one who has attained perfection.
