Origin: A borrowing from French, combined with an English element. Etymons: French tautochrone , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < French tautochrone, adjective (1732: see tautochrone n.) + -ous suffix.Quot. 1771 translates the title of ‘Sur les courbes tautochrones’, a paper by J.-L. Lagrange in Mém. de l'Acad. Royale des Sci. & Belles-Lettres 1765 (1767) 364.
Of a curve: that is a tautochrone. Also (of a body): that follows a tautochrone.
