Etymology: < telecast v. + -er suffix¹, after broadcaster n. In sense 2 with punning reference to sense 1.The original name of the model of electric guitar (see sense 2) was Broadcaster (1950; specific use of broadcaster n.). Fender, the manufacturer, were approached by the Gretsch company, makers of a drum kit called Broadkaster, and asked to change the name for legal reasons. See further A. R.
