Origin: Formed within English, by clipping or shortening. Etymon: teleconference n.
Etymology: Partly < tele- (in teletype n.) + con- (in conference n.), and partly (especially in later use in sense 1) independently shortened < teleconference n.
Originally U.S. (in military and government agency contexts).
1. A meeting or conference held using telecommunications devices, spec. (in early use) one held using telecons (see sense 2); a teleconference.
