Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; originally modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: tele- comb. form, -kinesis comb. form.
Etymology: < tele- comb. form + -kinesis comb. form, originally translating German Fernwirkung (first half of the 19th cent. or earlier in this sense). Compare German Telekinese (1891 or earlier). Compare telekinetic adj.
The supposed phenomenon or ability whereby a person moves or affects physical objects at a distance by mental effort or other non-physical means. Cf. psychokinesis n. 1.
