Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: tele- comb. form, -plasm comb. form.
Etymology: < tele- comb. form + -plasm comb. form. Compare earlier teleplasmic adj.In sense 1 perhaps by confusion of the first element with telo- comb. form1. In sense 2 after German Teleplasma ( A. von Schrenck-Notzing Materialisationsphänomene (1914) 452); compare earlier ectoplasm n., psychoplasm n., and also earlier teleplastic adj.
1. Medicine. A neoplasm, esp. one believed to result from cells having embryonic characteristics. rare.
