Etymology: < term n. + day n. With sense 1 compare Anglo-Norman jur de terme period during which a court is in session (a1321 or earlier). With sense 3 compare German Termintag (1841 or earlier in this sense; 1834 or earlier in sense ‘day appointed for court sessions’).
1. A day set as a term (term n. 1a); a day appointed for doing something, esp. for payment of money due; (also) a day by which something must be done; an end day. Also figurative. Obsolete except as in senses 2, 3.but terme day: without end, for ever (obsolete).
