Etymology: < Greek τετρα- tetra- comb. form 2 + -ic suffix.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈtetric.
Chemistry.
In tetric acid, a substance described by Demarçay in 1877, now believed to be C10H12O6, or C5H6O3. It is a colourless body crystallizing in triclinic prisms. Its salts are tetrates n.
