Etymology: < Hebrew tammūz.
The tenth month of the Jewish civil year, and the fourth of the sacred, containing twenty-nine days, and corresponding to parts of June and July. Also the name of a Syrian deity, identified with the Phœnician Adôn or Adonis, whose annual festival began with the new moon of this month.
