† theamingadj.
Origin: Probably a variant or alteration of another lexical item.
Etymology: Probably a typographical or compositorial error, although it is unclear what the correct reading is (perhaps the gleaming Arsadine ; compare arsadine at orsedue n. β. forms).According to S. W. Singer Dramatic Wks. Shakspeare (1826) III. 215, the reference is to the representation of an ivy-bush (traditionally the sign of a vintner), often decorated with imitation gold or silver foil; compare: 1598 J. Florio Worlde of Wordes Trémola, a kinde of thin plate like gold that vintners vse to adorne their bushes with.Singer glosses ‘theaming Arsadine’ as ‘glittering foil or orsedew’.
1599 T. Nashe 54 A London Vintners signe, thicke iagged, and round fringed, with theaming Arsadine.
