Etymology: < scientific Latin theci-, combining form (in e.g. thecifer : see theciferous adj. ) of classical Latin theca theca n.; compare -i- connective.In theciferous adj. after scientific Latin thecifer (1787 or earlier). In thecigerous adj. after scientific Latin theciger (1787 or earlier).
Combining form of theca n., esp. in botanical words. theˈciferous adj.,theˈcigerous adj. bearing thecæ or asci., theciform adj. having the form of a theca.
