Etymology: Anagrammatic formation by partial reversal of the name of its inventor, F. B. Gilbreth (1868–1924), U.S. engineer and pioneer of time-and-motion studies.

In time-and-motion study, a unit of work or absence of work into which an industrial operation may be divided (see quot. 1921); a symbol representing such a unit.
