Etymology: In Old English þéofian , < þéof, thief n. The verb is rare in Old English, after which it does not appear till the 17th cent. The verbal noun thieving occurs from 1530. (For the v. see note to thief n.)
1. intransitive. To act as a thief, commit theft, steal.
