Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; probably modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: a- prefix6, chlorhydric acid n. at chlor- comb. form2 2, -ia suffix1.
Etymology: < a- prefix6 + chlorhydr- (in chlorhydric acid n. at chlor- comb. form2 2) + -ia suffix1, probably after German Achlorhydrie (1897 or earlier).
Medicine.
The absence of hydrochloric acid in gastric fluid; the loss of the stomach's ability to secrete hydrochloric acid. Cf. anacidity n.
