Origin: A borrowing from Ojibwa. Etymon: Ojibwa dikinaagan.
Etymology: < Ojibwa dikinaagan (compare the Ojibwa (Nipissing) form tikinagan, recorded in the 19th cent.); compare Cree tihkinākan.
North American.
Among some Algonquian peoples: a baby carrier and cradle made from a thin, rectangular board (to which the baby is strapped) with a support for the baby's feet and (typically) a wooden bow to protect its head; = cradle-board n. at cradle n. Compounds 2. A tikinagan can be carried on one's back, or placed somewhere with the baby in an upright position.
