Etymology: < Latin tūribulum, thūribulum censer, < tūs , thūs , thūr- incense: see thus n. So Old French thurible (Godefroy).
a. A vessel in which incense is burnt in religious ceremonies; a censer.Now usually a metal vase with pierced cover, containing combustible material to burn the gums used as incense, which is swung in the hand (or suspended) by chains.
