Etymology: Irregularly < classical Latin adīre to approach, to come into (an inheritance) (see adient adj.) + -ation suffix; compare classical Latin aditiō act of taking possession of an inheritance (see adition n.). Compare Dutch †aditie (rare) acceptance of an inheritance (1495 in late Middle Dutch as adicie ; < Latin) and Afrikaans adiasie (probably < English).
