Origin: Perhaps formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: tid adj., bit n.1
Etymology: Originally (in α. forms) perhaps < tid adj. + bit n.1, although see further discussion at tid adj. The β. forms probably show alteration of the first element after the second, although perhaps compare tit n.4, tittle n. 2.The form tidbit is now chiefly North American.
