Etymology: < Titian (1670 or earlier), Anglicized form of the name of Tiziano Vecellio , Venetian painter (c1488–1576), who was renowned for his depictions of female subjects with a distinctive shade of golden auburn hair. Compare earlier Titianic adj. and Titianesque adj.For paintings by Titian depicting women with this shade of hair, compare e.g. Venus of Urbino (1538), Noli me tangere (c1514), and Flora (c1516).
