titlern.3

Origin: Of unknown origin.
Etymology: Origin unknown. N.E.D. (1912) places in the same entry as titler n.2 1, but it is difficult to see the semantic motivation for a connection between the two. This does, however, appear to indicate that the pronunciation must have shown /ʌɪ/ in the first syllable, making a suggested connection with tit n.1 (on the basis of its shape) unlikely.
Obsolete.
