Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: a- prefix1, dight v.
Etymology: < a- prefix1 + dight v.Some later instances (especially in past participle form) may perhaps represent a variant of Middle English idight , the reflex of Old English gedihtan (see dight v., and compare a- prefix2). Compare also Old English adihtnian to compose, write (a letter, etc.) (see variant reading in quot. eOE at sense 1; compare -en suffix5).
Obsolete.
