Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French adinole.
Etymology: < French adinole ( F. S. Beudant Traité élém. de minéral. (ed. 2, 1832) II. 112, 126) < ancient Greek ἁδινός crowded, abundant ( < the same base as ἄδην enough (see Adephaga n.) + -νος , suffix forming nouns) + an element of uncertain origin (perhaps French -ole -ole suffix1, although the semantic motivation is unclear).
Geology.
A hard, fine-grained rock, rich in albite, resulting from contact metamorphism of shales, slates, etc.Originally described by Beudant as a mineral species, a form of albite.
