Chemistry.
adipic acid n. a crystalline carboxylic acid obtained originally by oxidizing natural fats and used as a monomer in the production of nylon.Systematic name: hexanedioic acid; HOOC(CH2)4COOH. Adipic acid is now largely produced synthetically.
