单词 brito-
释义

Brito-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly. Some degree of stress is always maintained on the first syllable. If the subsequent element is an existing word, it is likely to retain its original stress pattern, e.g. Brito-Canadian Brit. /ˌbrɪtəʊkəˈneɪdɪən/, U.S. /ˌbrɪdoʊkəˈneɪdiən/.
Forms: 1600s Bryto-, 1700s– Brito-.
Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by derivation. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: British adj., -o- connective; Latin Britō , Brittō , -o- connective.
Etymology: < Brit- (in either British adj. or classical Latin Britō, variant of Brittō Briton n.) + -o- connective, after e.g. Anglo- comb. form, Scoto- comb. form1.
