Origin: Probably formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: bride n.1, -y suffix6.
Etymology: Probably < bride n.1 + -y suffix6, perhaps after Scots †bride's pie (c1779), a large pie traditionally baked by a bride's family or friends for her wedding guests (see Sc. National Dict. at bride n., and compare β. forms at bride cake n.).
Scottish.
A semicircular pie or pasty, traditionally having a filling of beef or beef and onions.More fully Forfar bridie; the bridie is said to have been made first in Forfar in eastern Scotland.
