Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin achromos , -ic suffix; Greek ἄχρωμος , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin achromos (4th cent.) or its etymon ancient Greek ἄχρωμος colourless ( < ἀ- a- prefix6 + χρῶμα : see chrome n.) + -ic suffix. Compare earlier achromatic adj.
Lacking colour; spec. = achromatic adj. 1a, 1c, 2.
