单词 tomography
释义

tomographyn.

Brit. /təˈmɒɡrəfi/, /tɒˈmɒɡrəfi/, U.S. /toʊˈmɑɡrəfi/, /təˈmɑɡrəfi/
Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek τόμος , -graphy comb. form.
Etymology: < ancient Greek τόμος slice, section (see tome n.) + -graphy comb. form.
Originally: a process used to produce an image of the internal structure of a planar section of something in which an X-ray emitter and detector pivot about the object in such a way that everything lying outside of a particular plane appears blurred and indistinct (now also called focal plane tomography). In later use more generally: any of various processes used to produce a cross-sectional image of something by detecting the passage of electromagnetic waves, electrons, etc., occurring in a particular plane from different angles; (also) a process used to provide a three-dimensional image of the internal structure of something by combining such images.Frequently with distinguishing word or phrase in later use. computerized axial tomography, positron emission tomography, etc.: see the first element.Tomography was originally developed and is mainly used as a diagnostic tool in medicine.
