An alkaloid glycoside containing a steroidal and a tetrasaccharide component, present in the stems and leaves of the tomato plant and some other members of the family Solanaceae, and having cytotoxic activity, esp. against fungi.Chemical formula: C50H83NO21. The distinction made in quot. 1948 between tomatine and tomatin was not generally adopted.
